Back to Oahu Surgeons
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is the highly specialized field of surgery concerned with reducing scarring or disfigurement that may be the result of accidents, birth defects, diseases, and in some cases ageing. Often plastic surgery is performed to reshape normal structures of the body to improve the patient's appearance and self-esteem. Such surgeries are called cosmetic surgery. A surgeon who specializes in this field is called a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon. To be certified as a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, a doctor must have passed from a medical school, have at least three years of residency in general surgery, and at least two years of intense training in the full spectrum of reconstructive and cosmetic procedures.
