area.
The
Ala Moana Shopping Center is the largest shopping
mall in the state of Hawaii. It also holds the distinction
of being the world’s largest open-air shopping mall.
Originally built in 1959, and most recently renovated
in the late 90’s, Ala Moana Shopping Center today
holds over 240 stores and restaurants. The current anchor
tenants are Sears, Neiman Marcus, and Macy’s. All
the famous brand names in world fashion and jewelry, and
a large variety of Hawaiian gifts can be found here.
The Ala Moana Beach Park is a beautiful
76-acre park located along the south shore just west of
the Waikiki Beach area. One of the finer all-round family
parks on Oahu, Ala Moana Beach Park consists of a beach
and a general recreation area with lovely shaded picnic
facilities and grassy areas perfect for family outings.
Great outdoor activities like diving, surfing, swimming,
body boarding, model boat sailing, and kite flying are
offered here for those looking for fun and adventure.
Numerous restaurants are located in the
Ala Moana area, most of them being on the Restaurant Row
on Ala Moana Boulevard, and in the Ward Warehouse just
east of the shopping center and Ward Avenue. Many restaurants
are located in the Ala Moana Shopping Center. The food
court here offers an explosion of Pacific Rim and Asian
cuisine, local style food as well as American and European
dishes.
The Ala Moana area nightlife is plenty
with bars, nightclubs, discotheques, Karaoke, and gentlemen's
clubs that stay open all night long.
